The Kitchen Table Project

The Kitchen Table Project

Project details

The Kitchen Table Project was the beginning of a practice of capturing the untold stories of women in the domestic setting, often around the kitchen table.

Working with artist Abby Oliveria and women’s groups Tullyally Young Women, Galliagh Women’s Group, Strathfoyle Positive Ageing Programme and The Rainbow Project Women’s Group, the project was about gathering the stories of women held in conversation. From these stories, snippets were extracted and set onto a second hand kitchen table bought from a local charity shop. The idea that this table, already preloaded with its own history, would now have the hidden histories of these women carved into it as it begins its new chapter as centre-piece and talking point in Pilot’s Row Community Centre.

The Kitchen Table Project

Funded by ACNI, DCSDC and EANI through Eden Place Arts Centre, The Kitchen Table Project was a showcase exhibition for International Women’s Day working with women from Tullyalley Young Women, Galliagh Women’s Group, Strathfoyle Positive Ageing programme and The Rainbow Project Women’s Group. The project ran for six weeks in the build up to International Women’s Day 2016.
